Hi, I’m Daniella and the founder of Our Soulful Travels.
I like the smell of summer rain on the earth, the touch of waves, the taste of berries, the sight of trees, the sound of laughter and the feeling of being fully alive!
My husband, Rene and I are part-time travelers currently living in Johannesburg, South Africa with our fur-babies (2 dogs and 3 cats).
Armed with my pen (laptop?) and his camera we create travel and wellness content for other wanderers, digital nomads, and creative entrepreneurs – basically anyone who makes travel and wellness a priority (the ideal work/life balance in the age of information).
I am a multi-passionate creative (and a Capricorn) so I am constantly working on a wide variety of projects while learning about new topics.
My background is in psychology and as an empath, I love to help others heal and evolve.
I have an undergraduate degree in BSocSci Psychology from the University of Pretoria. I also have a postgraduate Honours degree in BA Psychology for the Professional Context from the University of South Africa.
My love of animals led me to investigate animals’ role in healing and therapy as well. So I have a Diploma in Animal Assisted Therapy and Animal Assisted Activities.
I have spent quite some time working as a PA for a Clinical Psychologist and have a background in administering psychological assessments and writing psychometric reports. As a result, I also have a Diploma in Occupational Testing from CEB and SHL Talent Central.
My quest for self-improvement and spiritual development guided me towards other niches that complemented my past studies. During this time I further my studies in different wellness aspects and received a Diploma in Mindful Coaching for Adults from the IPHM.
Throughout all this, two things remained constant. My love of traveling to see more of this beautiful world and my passion for words – both reading and writing!
My Personal Journey
After graduating, I started working as a Customer Care Consultant for a local skincare company. Although I excelled at the position, I soon realized that it was not satisfying work. However, it provided me with plenty learning experience and I was able to study further. I graduated with my Postgraduate Honours Degree in Psychology while working full time. After about 3 years, I decided to find work that I could be passionate about and left the company.
The next few years we spent teaching and work with young students which I found extremely fulfilling. I specifically worked with young children and high-school students who were dealing with various learning disabilities. During this time I learned a great deal both from my superiors but mostly from my students. Most of all I discovered that intelligence comes in many forms. However, after some years I decided that it was time to move on as I wanted to create something for myself.
Our Soulful Travels
At this point, I started my own business while working part-time with a clinical psychologist. I spent this time studying further while learning from my colleague and building my business slowly. My focus was on creating content for my clients but I wanted to use my skills to travel more often as well. Once I had more writing experience, I started working with online publications such as Arrivedo to create travel content. As I result, I was able to travel more often and would explore new places at least 4 times a year. This progressed to writing travel articles for numerous digital and print publications such as Rare Luxury Living magazine, Beau Monde Traveler Magazine, DRIFT Travel Magazine, and others. Throughout this time, I have continued to grow my business and create high-quality content for all my clients while traveling as much as possible.
