Amsterdam is a city of strangeness, full of eccentricities and weird experiences that you will most definitely not have anywhere else in the world. However, when a weary traveler returns from walks through this craziness they will be wishing for conventional comforts. That is exactly what you can expect from the superb new Hotel2Stay. Having opened their doors just over a year ago, this hotel is quickly becoming one of the best places to stay while in Amsterdam!
First of all I just want to mention that we struggled to get to this hotel, even with the aid of a GPS. However, this was not due to it being in some obscure location, it is not. Unfortunately at the time of our stay there were a lot of roadworks happening on highways around the city and all the roads we needed to take to get there were blocked. This lead to us driving around the city for a while, trying to find an entrance. Eventually we arrived in the area of Sloterdijk, which looked very much like a commercial center with large nondescript buildings all around. Hotel2Stay was easy to spot, as it is quite a unique looking building that stands out from the rest. At first I was disappointed that the Hotel seemed quite far away from the city center, but trust me their location is perfect. Right across the street you will find a train station, bus stop and tram stop, each of which will take you easily and quickly into the city and bring you back at any time of the night. Besides that, there was also a small shop close by to get necessities or snacks when needed.
From the moment I made contact with the staff of Hotel2Stay I have had pleasant interactions. Before even stepping foot in the hotel the friendly staff in all departments made sure that my experience would be exceptional. As we arrived we were greeted by friendly receptionists who made the check in process quite easy. As we were a bit early, our room was not ready, bu they were kind enough to look our luggage away while we went off to explore. They were also very helpful in terms of directing us to the closest public transport areas and providing us with a map and directions.
The best part of the stay were the rooms which are all big and spacious. All the rooms are equipped with everything you could need. This hotel caters to people who are staying in Amsterdam for an extended period of time. Therefore, each room has a comfy bed, table, chairs, large cupboards, and a kitchenette. The kitchenette is equipped with a basin, a dishwasher, a fridge and an oven/microwave. This allows guests the freedom to make their own meals if needed when staying for a long time. We made use of this option, as Amsterdam can be quite expensive in terms of food. We stayed in a King Studio and were really happy with everything that was provided. I cannot get over how comfortable the bed was and after 3 weeks of travel and lots of walking each day, it felt like I slept on clouds each night. The bathroom was clean, had all we needed and was restocked with the essentials each morning.
I was truly impressed with this 3-star hotel, which felt much more luxurious than 3-stars! What I enjoyed about Hotel2Stay was that you could feel like a local but with the facilities of a hotel if needed. There were a variety of facilities available to ensure our comfort and enjoyment during the stay. These included a gym, launderette, bike rental, rooftop terrace and sauna. As we were only there for a few days, we spent most of our time exploring Amsterdam and did not really make use of all their facilities. We did enjoy the rooftop terrace, which was just lovely in the evenings. We also tried their sauna, which was the only part of this hotel that disappointed me. Their sauna was not what I was expecting and was a heat sauna that used lighting instead of steam. As all the rooms have their own kitchenettes, Hotel2Stay does not serve breakfasts, however they have made a wonderful plan for the guests that do want this facility. They have partnered with the restaurant of a hotel right across the street to provide breakfast for their guests. Each morning we took a short walk across the street and were treated to a delicious all you can eat breakfast buffet.
We really loved our stay at Hotel2Stay and would definitely stay there again when we return to Amsterdam. Because of the location, the area was peaceful and quiet, unlike the center of Amsterdam. We had everything we could need in and around the hotel. Also we truly enjoyed our trips on the tram from the hotel to the city, and we discovered some amazing places along the way.
